LOTUS Esprit Turbo SE - Lot 66
LOTUS Esprit Turbo SE Introduced in 1975, it went into production the following year. Equipped with an in-house 4-cylinder, 2-bed, 16-valve mid-engine, first used in the Jensen-Healey and Lotus Elite (2nd of the name), it developed 160 hp and reached speeds of over 200 km/h. It also enjoyed success thanks to its appearance in the film "The Spy Who Loved Me". James Bond, who drives it, even transforms it into a submarine. In 1980, the "Turbo" version appeared as standard, an accessory that boosted power to 214 hp and propelled the car to 240 km/h. For 1988, the car was completely redesigned by Peter Stevens. The lines were rounded off and modernized. Its career ended in early 2004, with over 10,600 units produced (all engines combined). Lotus Esprit Turbo SE - 1991, pure English performance An icon of futuristic design in the 80s and 90s, this 1991 Lotus Esprit Turbo SE perfectly embodies the spirit of Colin Chapman: lightness, agility and pure sensations. Designed by the famous Giugiaro, then subtly reworked by Peter Stevens (designer of the McLaren F1), the Esprit Turbo boasts taut, racy lines that are both typically British and boldly modern. Beneath the fiberglass bodywork, the 4-cylinder 2.2L turbo delivers 264 hp, propelling the car from 0 to 100 km/h in less than 5 seconds - performance that's still impressive today. Combined with a 5-speed manual gearbox and an ultra-light chassis, this engine delivers a lively, precise and always engaging drive. The interior, trimmed in leather and cockpit-style instruments, evokes the sporting world of the 90s, with a touch of the brand's typical handcrafted elegance. Produced in a limited series, the SE (Special Equipment) version represents one of the most accomplished versions of the Esprit: sharpened suspension, reinforced brakes, more powerful Garrett turbo, and revised aerodynamic elements. A rare, emblematic model, and now highly prized by collectors, this 1991 Lotus Esprit Turbo SE embodies an era when mechanical emotion was experienced unfiltered, in a car that was as beautiful to look at as it was to drive. The model on offer was registered in France. The 3rd and current owner bought it in 2011 and imported it to Switzerland. The vehicle runs regularly and is in impeccable condition inside and out. It has been meticulously maintained, and a major service was carried out in 2021 with 56,000 km, including engine removal and gasket changes (file available with work details).
