AUSTIN HEALEY Sprite MK2 - Lot 55
AUSTIN HEALEY Sprite MK2 To succeed the "Frogeye", BMC decided to produce a joint version with MG, the "Midget". The Sprite, with its more conventional bodywork, came out in 1961. It retained all the mechanical features of its predecessor, then added a 1.1-liter engine in 1962. In 1966, it took over the 1.3-liter engine from the Mini Cooper S, "deflated" to 65 HP. Small improvements, becoming MK2, then MK3, were made throughout its career until 1971. Only its twin sister, the MG Midget, lived on until 1974. From MK2 to MK4, just over 80,000 units were produced. Full of charm and vivacity, this 1968 Austin-Healey Sprite MkII embodies the spirit of the small British roadsters of the sixties: simple, light and resolutely endearing. Its low, sleek silhouette, slim bumpers and small flanged wheels give it a unique style, somewhere between understated elegance and retro mischief. Under the hood, the 1098 cm³ 4-cylinder engine is responsive and playful, a perfect match for the car's light weight. A well-tuned manual gearbox and direct steering make for a real driving pleasure, all with the wind in your hair. It was bought in the USA in 1992 by the current owner, who lived in San Francisco and brought it back to Switzerland with him. He is the 2nd owner. As soon as it arrived in Switzerland, the vehicle underwent a complete body, interior and mechanical restoration at great expense. The car has been carefully maintained on a regular basis and has always been stored in a garage. This Austin Sprite MkII is a charming little English car, easy to maintain, economical and always smiling.
