Mercedes-Benz 280 SL 1968 Swiss registration Chassis... - Lot 17 - Arteal
Mercedes-Benz 280 SL 1968 Swiss registration Chassis number 113 044 100 0220 9 Displacement 2778 cm3 Power 125.03 kW First registration 02.05.1968 Last expertise 12.09.2018 Mileage 109036 km (2018) (meter reading) Designed by the Frenchman Paul Bracq, it was presented at the Geneva Motor Show in 1963. It is the successor of the 190 SL. The "Pagoda", name given because of the concave shape of its hard-top, is much more modern than its predecessor. Indeed, a 6 cylinders injection of 2,3 liters and 150 CV allows him to reach almost 200 Km/h! It is available with a 4 speed mechanical gearbox (5 speed optional from 1966) or an automatic gearbox. It has 4 independent wheels, 4 disc brakes (from 1967) and power steering as an option. In 1967, the engine is changed to 2.5 liters, with the same power but more torque. In 1968, it adopts a 2.8-liter engine of 160 HP which gives it a new impetus. Its line is so successful that it goes through its eight years of production without any aesthetic retouching. With the last version, there was the possibility to get light alloy wheels as an option. A total of 48,912 units were produced (all versions), of which only 882 were equipped with a 5-speed manual gearbox.
