Jaguar MK2 3.4 LT 1962 Swiss registration Chassis... - Lot 29 - Arteal
Jaguar MK2 3.4 LT 1962 Swiss registration Chassis number 177 930 DN Displacement 3442 cm3 Power rating First registration 03.01.1962 Last expertise 21.09.1993 Mileage From the middle of the 50's, Jaguar's managers wanted to enlarge the clientele by proposing a modern and affordable saloon in its category. Thus, in 1955, a saloon car is presented under the name of 2.4L saloon. It is the first monocoque of the brand and its entirely new body is designed by the founder of the brand William Lyons whose elegance of style is recognized. This model was produced in 40'000 units from 1955 to 1959, going from 2,4L to 3,4L in 1957. The production will be stopped in 1959 to leave the place to the MK2 model. It is the place to underline that the model "MK1" never existed in the catalog of the mark! It is in October 1959 that the 2,4/3,4 saloon will be replaced by the MK2 (and not MK II) which will be equipped with three engines, 2,4L/3,4,L/3,8L. This sports saloon immediately met with great success in racing, both in Great Britain and on the Continent where it won a brilliant victory in the Tour de France in 1960 at the expert hands of Bernard Consten, who would repeat the feat in 1963. More sadly, it is at the wheel of a MK2 that the author of OSS117, Jean Bruce, will find the death. There were Mk2 3.8 1959-1967, 30 070 copies, Mk2 3.4 1959-1967, 28 660 copies, Mk2 2.4 1959-1967, 2 483 copies. The end of the model was declined under another name, 340 1967-1968, 2 630 copies and 240 1967-1969, 4 210 copies.
