Renault Avantime Swiss registration Chassis number VF 8DE 0T0 227 613 972 Displacement 2946 cm3 Power 152 kW 206 HP First registration 18.11.2002 Last expertise 12.06.2020 Mileage 144000 km (meter reading) At the beginning of the 1980's, the CEO of Matra (acronym of Mechanics, Aviation, Traction), Mr Jean-Luc Lagardère, discovered the Chrysler Voyager in the USA. He decided to take this concept and introduce it in France. The prototype was first proposed to Peugeot (PSA), which did not believe in it and declined the offer. The concept is then proposed to the Renault company which accepts the innovative idea and leaves the manufacturing to Matra. The series 1 meets a modest success at its beginning but rather quickly, the volume of sales increases to the point that the series 2 and 3 become real commercial successes. Due to Matra's "reduced" capacity to produce more than 300 vehicles per day, Renault decides to produce the Espace 4 itself, scheduled for 2003. This decision pushes Matra to look for a new concept likely to interest Renault. This is how the Avantime was born, the first "coupéspace", a word which later entered the Larousse dictionary and which was designed by Thierry Métroz. This concept car went into production in 2001 almost as presented at car shows. Like its name, this vehicle, very advanced for its time, struggles to seduce buyers. Its production is stopped after only 20 months and 8557 units manufactured. Some of its main characteristics are: the double-hinged door design due to their length and weight of 55Kg; the unique "Grand Air" control of the 4 windows and the sunroof at the touch of a button; the absence of a B-pillar which requires the integration of the safety belts in the front seats, for example. The model offered for sale is a 2002 model, with 144'000 km on the odometer. Grey with iridescent effects, beige leather interior, it is equipped with a V6, 3l, 24 valves and an automatic transmission. The paint is new and the exterior is generally in very good condition, the timing belt has been replaced recently. Everything works to satisfaction, including the electrical equipment. The service booklet is available.
